This is the last stop on this train. Everybody Off!
The greatest thing about being able to ride the 6 train every day, is knowing that it’s one of the oldest lines in the world. The Lexington Avenue line technically ends at City Hall, but doesn’t really end. The station is constructed as a loop, so southbound trains boot everyone off at City Hall, then the train loops through and appears moments later on the opposite platform, becoming an uptown train.
Here’s a NYC secret: You can technically stay on the train for a ride through the loop. Inside you’ll find an amazing treat. The old City Hall station, which is amazingly beautiful with brick archways (like the kind you’ll find downstairs at Grand Central Terminal) and stained glass skylights. It’s a long since forgotten station, but is worth seeing.
