I always loved how some old bars would call themselves Inns.
Even if they’ve never offered any sort of place to sleep. (Sleeping on the bar when your blasted out of your mind doesn’t count.) This has got to be a really American thing.
I’m also pretty happy at the volume of classy neon signage that still remains in the city. The current trend for cheapo small business signage is the lit awning with vinyl over top. Neon really is a dying breed. It’s nice to find some good stuff.
Tip: If you really hate cheapo signage, check out this rant from one of my favorite designers Aaron Draplin.
