Subways Had Bathrooms?

Found at Astor Place. Right next to it is a women’s bathroom, although in a strange twist of fate, the old restrooms have been turned into a newsstand.

I can only imagine what it must have been like to have bathrooms in the subway. Either it was from a more civilized time, or they just didn’t plan for homeless people when the stations were constructed.

Today, I really have a hard time imagining restrooms being installed in new stations. Perhaps on the 75 years in the making Second Avenue Line?

I heard they’ll have Air Conditioning!
Sometimes it’s embarrassing how far behind our mass transit system is.
