My name is Mud.

One of the coolest things I first discovered when moving to NYC two years ago, was the really active food truck culture.

I mean, everyone knows about the Hot Dog carts, but this is something more. You can get Tacos from a truck, ice cream from Mister Softee, Belgian waffles from Waffles & Dinges and much more. In New York, truck food is getting surprisingly sophisticated. It’s especially nice to stop by one after an exhausting pub crawl with good friends. It’s quick, and you can eat on the go.

One of the most popular things sold out of a truck is Coffee. Especially downtown, anything below 23rd street, you’ll find these bright orange coffee trucks, from a brand called Mud. Their florescent trucks cruise the city serving up some pretty high quality cups of Java. You can find one reliably parked in Astor Place almost every day. Totally worth finding, and better than Starbucks.

So, walking in Union Square one day I saw this truck, though it was a Mud Truck, and to my surprise it was a complete knockoff! The real deal looks like this.

Sorry Mr. “New York Street Coffee”, that’s a lame attempt. You may fool the tourists, but not me. Especially with the tacky swirly type.
